Most people say to test out tons of videos, and a few of them will take off, and possibly one will go viral. While this may be true, the odds are stacked against you of getting a true viral video. I have went through multiple accounts, many videos, and actually bought a software to help me force certain videos viral. I will talk about the software later.

For starters, just spend 30 minutes checking out YouTube. You are trying to fit in, so explore the scenery and take some notes. During this process you are wanting to come up with the type of videos you want to promote, find your niche. Some of your niche’s will allow your videos to be left alone by YouTube, while others may push the boundaries of the YouTube rules and get your accounts banned. Start out with one niche and build up your empire. Create a new YouTube account, and take time decorating your profile page. Be sure to include a link to your landing page in the Website field.

Surf YouTube and find 5 videos that don’t already have a watermark across them. If there is an ad at the beginning or end, that is fine as we can split that out in Windows Movie Maker. So get 5 videos that you think will do well for your niche. I used “YouTube Downloader” to download the videos off YouTube, then convert them to WMV files. Go ahead and download YouTube Downloader. Create a folder on your desktop named “YouTube Projects” and save the videos there. Within that folder create another folder named “Watermarked and Done”.

After ripping 5 youtube videos with YouTube Downloader, you should have all 5 of them in your projects folder. Open up Windows Movie Maker. Import one of your videos you ripped. Then add a watermark to your video. This is up to your creativity, so I am not going to walk you through that part. Once watermarked, click publish and save the final video to “Watermarked and Done”. Repeat this process for all 5 videos. Once you have all 5 videos watermarked, double check them and ensure they play properly. If everything is okay, upload the videos to YouTube. Set proper names, descriptions, ect. You can keyword stuff your descriptions, but keep it small as a huge list will possibly get your account suspended/deleted.

You can keep doing this, just create more accounts and upload a safe 5 videos to each. Some videos will naturally keep getting decent views, others will seem to fall off the face of the earth. Even without pushing the videos, just naturally letting them go will still bring in traffic. How much traffic determines the niche popularity, title, keywords, and how many videos you have spread across accounts. I would say don’t stop until you have 10 main accounts, with 5 videos on each account. So 50 videos across 10 accounts. You can keep doing more if you like.

So what about fast traffic and forcing your video to go viral on YouTube. This is where Tube Automator comes in to play. This has been the best purchase I have ever made in my marketing trials. Expand - Your site is done with the exception of you updating it a few times a week. What do you do now? It is time to expand. You learned the basics, but you more than likely aren’t going to get rich off of one source of income. You could find another hot niche, research some good keywords to rank well for, and start a new site. Just don’t forget about the old one, it could provide a good source of free traffic to your new site. Just don’t let people know that you run both sites. Like on your first site, don’t say “Visit my other site …”. Instead, write a review of your new site and act like it is someone elses. You could venture into phpBay. You could create a landing page and push traffic to an offer. Once you know how to create and manage your own website, your options begin to open up.

I suggest trying a combination of everything. I of course run this blog. I also have created landing pages and pushed PPC traffic using facebook, Adwords, and Yahoo Search Marketing. I have created a landing page and pushed free traffic with various free methods like YouTube. Right now I get 100-200 uniques a day from about 30 videos on YouTube. I am earning about $100-$200 a month. No it isn’t huge profit, but it is some extra money to pay bills. I expect to earn about $500+ a month by 6 months from now. Hopefully I can end up working from home making money online, but I set realistic goals first. And build my way up. You can’t start off knowing the ropes right away, you have to jump in head first and learn first hand. Make mistakes and learn from them. Learn methods that work for you, and make it happen. Rinse and Repeat. People that make good money online, balance about 5-10 projects at ones. Usually one or two of them make good money, then the rest are smaller profits. You may have 2 projects earning about $500-$1000 a month each, then the rest may balance around the $100-$300 range.

First off, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. The point of using SEO tactics in the design and content of your site is to rank better in search engines. You are making your site easy for the search engines to read, and also for your readers. So lets start off with a few simple things. If you have no knowledge of creating websites or Wordpress, then you may want to pick up a free wordpress theme that is SEO friendly. I think Blog Oh Blog, and Courts Internet Marketing School is a good start. Also search google for “free SEO Wordpress themes”. You could also pay someone, or buy a pre-made wordpress theme that is SEO friendly. Using a premium theme is the way to go. You want your site to stand out, not just look like every other cheap blog.

In The Header: If you do know a thing or two, then you can make any theme SEO friendly. Lets start from the top of your site, down to the bottom. You want your TITLE and Description meta tags to be perfect. Usually people have the title of their site target their niche keyword. Like I am in the niche, “Make Money Online Blogging”, so that is in my title. You also want this keyword at least once, if not twice in your description. Tuck it in there, dont just keyword stuff the description. Remember, when people use Google and Yahoo, they will see the title and description, so it you just make your description, “Make money online, make money online blogging, how to make money online, how to make money, how to make money fast”, you probably are going to have many people skip right over your site.

Next stop is the H1 tag: This is the strongest tag on the body of your site. Use your main keyword in it. I have “Make Money Online Blogging” wrapped in the H1 tag. You can see this right below my logo at the top.

How to use H2 tags properly: This is the biggest problem with many free wordpress templates. You know the right sidebar that lists all your categories, pages, ect? Well most templates use H2 tags for each one of the items. No. Use H2 tags to identify the titles of your pages and posts. Usually you include the keyword you are targeting in the title. So when you are editing your theme, ensure the title of the page/post is wrapped in an H2 tag.

The Body of Your Posts and Pages: There really isn’t much too this. Just type away, whatever you want. If you are trying to rank that page/post then you will include targeted keywords, and probably repeat them for keyword density. Depending on the length of the post, I will repeat the keyword 3-5 times. If it still isn’t ranking well, I throw some backlinks at it and see what happens. But backlinks is later on in the lesson.

Fix Your Sidebar: If your template is using the H2 days for everything in the sidebar, you will want to fix this right away. You can simply make them H3 tags, or I prefer to use DIV tags and declare how they look using CSS. It is rather easy. The only problem you will face is you lose the font color, size, ect. With a little searching through your CSS file, you should be able to fix it in just a few minutes.

Curing the Footer: Most of the time you will see a link back to the homepage in the footer. You want to you your site’s main keyword. This is called the Anchor Text. If you look at my footer, it reads “Make Money Online Blogging”, and the link points to my domain shudogg.com. When you link on other sites to your site, you want to use this anchor text. It helps you rank for that keyword.

That is the basics for getting your site off to a good start. There are more in-depth things to go into like keyword density, researching and targeting the right keywords, ect. But this is a tutorial on how to create a website, not marketing.

Backlinks: Backlinks is part of SEO, but I seperated it for a reason. The SEO part above is about how to get your site ready for the search engines and preparing it. The actual code underlying. For the rest of SEO tactics, you go to backlinks. I guess you can seperate this into two sets of backlinks. One to your main site, and the second to specific pages on your site. So say my Anchor text was just “Make Money Online”, I then have sub sections of “Make Money Online Blogging, “Make Money Online with Ebay”, ect. Each one of the subsections would be a post or a page within my main site.

You want to get a good amount of backlinks to everything you want to get ranked well in search engines. One of my sites, I rank well for some keywords, and not even found for the rest. So I need to get backlinks to the specific pages that aren’t anywhere to be found to boost them up individually.

So when you are getting backlinks, you want to get links to your main URL, and also specific pages within it. I usually say to start off with 500 backlinks to your main URL. 300 backlinks to each of your specific pages. So I would get 500 backlinks to my main URL using the anchor text “Make Money Online”. Then I have the pages within the site. I would get 300 backlinks to site.com/make-money-online-blogging using the anchor text “Make Money Online Blogging”. I would also get 300 backlinks to site.com/make-money-online-with-ebay using the anchor text “Make Money Online Blogging With Ebay”. See what I’m doing?

Where do I go to get backlinks? You can start off with using a directory service like One Way Text Link. I like them because you create an account for free. Then you are presented with tons and tons of directories to submit to. They link right to the site, and it keeps track of which directories you have already completed so you dont get confused. They also give the pagerank of the directory site, which is nice.

You could pay a service, or a person at WickedFire to submit your site for you. A lot do 300, 500, or 1,000 backlinks. Just tell them your anchor text and URL you want them to link to. So if you don’t like spending tons of hours getting backlinks yourself, pay a person at wickedfire to do it. Just a shot, about $30 for 500? Don’t quote me on that though. You could also go to other websites and email them asking for a link exchange. Also you could comment on blogs. The URL is what page you are working on for getting backlinks, and use your name for the anchor text. A lot of blogs use the “nofollow” tag, so they won’t count for backlinks in google. You can though find a decent amount of blogs that are “do follow”, those are the ones you want.

Lastly you have forums. A lot of forums don’t use nofollow tags that I am aware of. Find some really popular forums for your niche and create a free account. First thing you do is login and edit your account options. You want to find where you can edit your signature. Make your signature, or “sig” for short, crafty but not annoying and spammy. Include your link in the signature using the anchor text you are ranking for. Post comments but dont spam. 10 forums, 10 posts each = 100 free backlinks and should take roughly an hour if you have a niche where you can find decent forums easily.

So you have done proper research, and know your niche and the keywords you are going to target. This next portion is pretty simple so the post shouldn’t be too long.

First you need a Webhosting company. I prefer to use 1&1 Web Hosting. They are really fast at setting up the account. It says 24 hours, but mine was set up in about 3. I am using their $5 a month package, and it is the best around! Later when you get more traffic, you can move up to the next package.

So you now are signed up with 1&1 Web hosting. While you are waiting for the account to process, you can go ahead and find your FTP software. This is the easiest and best way to transfer files to your site, and you are going to need it. Here are a few free ones I found: Free FTP, Smart FTP, CoffeeCup Free FTP,  and CoreFTP. One of those has to please you. I think I have used Smart FTP and CoreFTP before, I now use CuteFTP but it costs money.

If you are going to go the Wordpress route, then you will want to download the latest version of Wordpress. If you choose Wordpress, then I highly recomend OIOPublisher. You see those square button ads to the right? Those rotate, and people can buy them. It is a great way to make money off of your blog. You can customize it and add different ad spots anywhere on your site. You can also sell posts, everything. Basically, if you are creating a blog, then get OIOPublisher Direct.

Maybe you want to use the Ebay Partner Network and make comission from referring people to buy things off ebay. You get $25 for any new member, and you get 50% of Ebay’s comission. I think everyone that wants to make money online needs to have at least one phpBay website. You don’t know what your missin!

Once you get your hosting and domain created, found an FTP program, got OIOPublisher Direct, phpBay, and signed up for the Ebay Partner Network, you are ready to upload everything and get started.

When signed in to the 1&1 control panel, click FTP. There you will see the username and password for the ftp account. If you want, you can create additional FTP accounts with names that are easy to remember. Enter these settings into the FTP software you chose. I have it save the password so it is easy to login every time.

Once connected via FTP to your server, you then need to upload the files. I am not going to walk you through how to extract files, or how to configure wordpress, ect. They come with complete readme files that tell you what to do. I will say that you MUST edit the wordpress config file to include your server information and rename it from wp-config-sample.php to just wp-config.php. Upload all of the files to the servers root directory. Like I said, read the install/readme file included if you don’t know how to install it.

Once Wordpress is setup, you need a theme. There are tons of free themes at Wordpress’ site. Or just google up some and find one you like. You may also want to find some plugins to make things easier on yourself. I will post later on a list of plugins I find useful, but this guide is to get you started, not walk you through life. Upload OIOPublisher, again read its readme for reference on where it gets uploaded to and how to set it up. All of these are really easy. Once you have done it correctly once, it is a snap after that.

If you chose a phpbay site, you still need to upload Wordpress. phpBay goes in the plugins folder, and I beleive there is a php file that goes in the root directory. I recomend using a static page for wordpress when using phpBay. You can set this in the settings section, I beleive under reading.

So if you just chose the Wordpress blog route, write your first post. Maybe create an additional page, and just get to know how it works. Try out a few themes. Find some affiliate programs, and fill in the ads for OIOPublisher Direct. With some tweaking and Googling, you should settle in to your new site nicely. If you chose to add phpBay, start adding some of the auctions. It comes with a great pdf readme/tutorial on how to setup and use phpBay.

Work on designing your site, and get it to look just the way you want it. The next post will be on SEO and how to setup your site to get the most out of search engine traffic.

INTRO

Many of you reading probably don’t even have your own website yet. The most common readers for blogs in the “Make Money Online” niche are just that. They are readers and not doers. I am going to help your sorry self. People spend tons of time reading Make Money Online sites, but don’t actually follow through. Why they don’t start I don’t know. Within 6 months you could be making some decent cash from your site. How much money you make off of your site depends on a few factors. I am going to point out two of the main reasons people fail.

Dedication - Dedication is probably the number one reason why bloggers fail. You must create a site that you are passionate about. Something you can write about daily, and have unique and fresh content. You can not just throw up your site and expect tons of traffic for free, and not do anything. You have to put a lot of hard work and effort into it. Once you get the recipe down, you can rinse and repeat. People that make a living off of the internet work probably about 7-10 hours a day average.

Research - Probably the second factor for failure comes down to research. I am going to tell you right now, 9 out of 10 people will not get rich off of a Make Money Online blog. Then why do these Make Money Online blogs exist? It is a way of reaching out to newbies and helping them get started. I make my hosting costs back off of this site, but the niche is so saturated it is hard to make tons of money off of it. So my suggestion to you is, do not start a make money online site with the intention of making big money off of it. It is our way of documenting what we do publicly to help out others. In my next post, I will help you use research to chose a good niche to get started in and help you choose keywords to target for organic search engine traffic.

RESEARCH

Research is going to be the make or break of your success. This goes from creating a blog, to niche stores, and even affiliate marketing.

The first step is to think of a few niches you want to jump into. Then go another level deeper into that niche to get more specific. You want to think of things you are interested in like cars, sports, shopping, video games, ect. Those would be niches. So lets say you pick sports. With sports you have tons of options to narrow down and find a micro niche. The niche “Sports” is too saturated, and so is basically everything on this level. So we go a few steps deeper. You could choose basketball, baseball, football, nascar, golf, bowling, cheerleading, and the list goes on. Also at this level, our choices are probably still too saturated. We need to go another level deeper. So lets choose Bowling. Now we are at Sports > Bowling. We now have some more refined choices to make. Some micro niches for bowling could be: news, leagues, accessories, and probably a few more that I can’t think of. So looking at the choices, I would probably have came up with bowling accessories. Now we took the sports niche that is over saturated, and refined it to a micro niche at Sports > Bowling > Accessories. We will take this one step deeper and find out what kind of accessories we are going to create a website about once we find out our keywords.

So what? Why would I want to do Bowling Accessories over a sports site. Well, create a sports website and see how easily you rank on the first page of Google? Without ranking well, your site will probably be a ghost town. Google is going to be your main source of traffic, and ranking well in it’s SERPS will help you out a lot. Besides that, it will be free steady traffic, and who doesn’t want that?

Your next question may be, “How am I going to post daily on a blog about Bowling Accessories?”. My answer, “Who said anything about creating a blog?”! I suggest using Wordpress as search engines love it and it is really easy to use, but you can still make it a website and not a blog. My suggestion is to create a phpBay site for the micro niche. Another option is to use affiliate offers, or some other creative way to earn cash. Maybe you have a deal with a bowling ball company and get bowling balls dirt cheap. You could then take pictures of the inventory and sell them for the company for a share of the profit. but if you insist on a blog, you probably want to stay on the lines of a news or review site.

So now we have our micro niche of Bowling Accessories. We need keywords! You want to stay away from keywords everyone else is using. Most people just think of popular keywords like “bowling accessories, bowling balls, bowling shoes”, and expect them to perform well. It actually works opposite of that. You are looking for keywords that not a lot of other marketers are using, but get searched a lot. Some examples could be “wholesale bowling balls” or “bowling ball skulls”. Using that example, you would make the site around bowling balls. These are keywords that I like to call “gems” (or gemz if you are 1337 enough to say it like that). So lets find our gems.

Google’s Keyword Tool, WordTracker’s Keyword Tool, SEOBook’s Keyword Tool, and Keyword Spy are going to be your best friends. I normally use Google’s tool first to narrow down my keywords and also it suggests other keywords I may not have been aware of. Then I pop in the keywords into SEOBook’s Keyword Tool and see how many estimated searches that keyword gets a day. I have heard you want to pick a keyword with about 100-200 searches a day. That would be at least 3,000 per month for google’s tool.

I started out with a list of about 300 keywords, and narrowed it down to about 25 for my last niche store. I then chose the best 5 of those to acutally push for. Search google, keyword spy, ect and get a massive list of keywords. Remove general keywords like “bowling, accessories, sports” from the list as you go because those are over saturated ones. You also want to stay away from one word keywords. So stay away from “bowling” but use 2 or 3 word phrases like “brandname balls” or “model brand balls” or “brand bowling balls”. Once you have a massive list of keywords, pop them into SEOBook’s Keyword tool one by one. Remove any from the list that get under 100 estimated searches per day. Also put them into Google’s keyword tool. Ideally you are wanting keywords that have a very low competition level, but a good amount of searches. You can take a few low competition level keywords if needed, but I would increase the requirement for amount of searches as you are upping competition. Stay away from keywords that have average competition and above. Here is my requirements, but yours may vary. Very low competition and min of 3,000 searches per month. For low competition, I up the searches to 5,000 per month. If you are having trouble finding any keywords that meet these requirements then either you aren’t looking hard enough, or you need to check out another niche. Not all niches are going to work.

For this next portion, I would suggest having about 20 keywords that match the above requirements. Go to Google and search for each one of your keywords with quotes around them. So say you used, discounted bowling balls. You would enter “discounted bowling balls” into the search box including the quotes around the words! On the right hand side you will see how many pages were found, and how long the search took. You definately don’t want any keyword phrase that brings up more than 1 million pages. The less the better. I have some keywords that brought up anywhere from 700-14,000 pages. That is really good. I suggest writing down somewhere the stats of each keyword including estimated searches and the pages google pulled up. So you would have a list in notepad that looks something like:

keyword phrase 1 - very low comp - 6100 estimated/mo - 14,511 pages
keyword phrase 2 - very low comp - 4700 estimated/mo -  2,050 pages *

While making your list, keep putting them in order. I usually have two sections, very low competition and low competition. Then in each list I have the keywords sorted by estimated searches. While you do the google search with quotes around the keyword phrase to see how many pages are pulled up, also look at the first and even maybe the second page. You want to take a look at what sites are sitting there. If you see nothing but espn or big name sites on the first page, you probably won’t be able to beat them out. For sports, it is common to see myespn.com as one of the first results. But say the first 3 spots are huge sites like espn, but then you see joesblog.com and bobbiespage.com filling up the rest of the page, you then have a chance. These are normal people’s websites that have landed the first page. Check out the site and see what its about. You have to determine if you can beat them or not. If you feel that you can beat this site in the ranking, then put a star next to it in your notepad. As you see in my above example, keyword 1 gets more searches per month, but upon research I determined that it was too difficult to rank the first page. Keyword two was filled with generic web sites and I feel I have a chance to beat them. Lucky for me it also has pulled less pages, making our job easier. Don’t get caught up in keywords that have tons of searches per month. It is useless if you can not rank well for it. You will get more traffic with a less volume keyword if you land the first page.

Your goal is to have 5 awesome keywords on the first page of Google. Not all of your keywords will land on the first page. Just because you found a keyword with a good amount of searches, low competition, and generic sites on the first page, does not garantee you the first page. There are other factors like backlicks and relativity. Backlinks will be covered in the rest of this guide later. You should be fine on the relativity part if you chose a micro niche. If you chose bowling balls, then you site needs to be 100% about bowling balls. Leave the talk about the new car you bought for another site.

I usually do a split test with my keywords. I start out with more than I need, and remove the ones that don’t perform. Say you have 10 keywords that land on the first and second page, and you have 5 other keywords that are somewhere out in space. If you remove those 5 keywords that didn’t land on the 1st or 2nd page, you may see your other keywords move up in ranking. This is because removing those keywords may help google think your site is more related to the keywords you ranked well for. No not overnight, but possibly with the next google update. So it could be a few weeks. Once you narrow down to 5 keywords that are on the first page, you can then test more keywords one by one. Just because you have 5 on the first page doesn’t mean your job is done. You may be able to find a keyword that can land on the first page of google, but bring in more traffic.

It is also a good idea to check up on your keywords. Once you have your site totally finished, go back and do this process over again. This time it will be much easier because you are only checking a few keywords. So first check your keyword ranking and ensure it is still on the 1st page. Then check the estimated searches to ensure it didn’t drop off the map. Basically check the stats of each one of your keywords on a monthly basis. You may find one of your keywords became saturated and pushed to to page 10 of google, and that isn’t nice. You then would need to find another keyword to rank 1st for repeating the steps above.
