Create the mood of the room which helps induce relaxation. The use of low lighting techniques can greatly assist you in relaxing. Use dimmers to lower the light level in the room. You can also turn off the lights and use candles. Candles are very soothing and relaxing.

One technique that I like to use is I bring a blanket. I put the blanket over the top of me while I see my massage. This helps to keep the front of me warm while the massage is working the rest of my body. It also holds the heat and provides for a much more comfortable experience.

Use headphones to listen to your music. There are massage recliners that come equipped with MP3 players and headphones. Headphones help to cut out all the ambient noise. This helps from outside disturbances breaking your relaxation.

Use a portable MP3 player or iPod to listen to music. Typically, these devices come with ear-buds which are held by the ears. Sometimes these thinner headphones are nice when you want to get a head massage. The rollers performing the massage are able to cover the area without contacting the headphones.

Use some aromatherapy to enhance the smell of the room. Use a fragrance stick or even perfume to provide a sensational aroma to the senses. A common fragrance can be very comforting and help to better relax the mind.

Massage therapy is about the holistic treatment of the body. The mind must relax in order for the body to relax. When the mind is full of stressful situations, then it does not allow the body to relax. Create a relaxing environment to help your mind release its stressful thoughts. The mind is holding the body under tension causing stiffness. Massage therapy seeks to reverse this process. Creating a comfortable and soothing environment assist the mind to relax. A massage chair can then be much more effective in releasing the tension held in the body.
